Fuding White Silver Needle Tea, commonly known as Silver Needle Tea belongs to the white tea category among the six major types of tea. Shaped like a needle, densely covered with white downy hair, and white in colour like silver, it thus got its name. Owing to its outstanding quality and unique flavour, it has long been praised as the "beauty" and "king of teas", and is also one of China's top ten famous teas.

The history of White Silver Needle Tea can be traced back to 1796 (the early years of the Jiaqing reign of the Qing Dynasty). At that time, tea makers in Fujian used the robust buds of local tea plants as raw materials to create White Silver Needle Tea. Starting from 1885, Fuding began to use the robust buds of Fuding Dabai tea plants to make White Silver Needle Tea, further improving its quality.

Fuding White Silver Needle Tea is mainly produced in Fuding City and Zhenghe County in Fujian Province, China. Fuding City has a subtropical monsoon climate with abundant rainfall. About 91% of its land area is covered by hills and mountains, and about 9% is basin valleys and plains. There are also the Qinglong and Tailao Mountains with an altitude of over 900 meters. These favourable natural conditions are very suitable for the growth of tea trees.

The picking requirements for White Silver Needle Tea are extremely strict. Generally, only buds or bud hearts are picked. There are also "ten no-picking" rules, such as not picking on rainy days, when the dew has not dried, or from thin and weak buds. Its processing procedure is relatively simple, involving no frying or rolling, but only two steps: withering and baking. It is precisely this unique harvesting and processing technique that maximally preserves the original nutrients of the tea leaves.
